Ownership

The principal owners of Cadenza are Alan & Sue Mooney.  Alan & Sue are big fans of live music and theatre.   In addition to owning Cadenza, they are strong supporters of Maine State Music Theatre.  Sue has served on the Board of Trustees and is part the MSMT Angel volunteers.  Sue and Alan often sponsor MSMT events.   They also own 5 Depot Street, the building that houses Cadenza.

Steve Poulos is also an owner and supporter of Cadenza.   Steve is enthusiastic about live performances and frequently attends Broadway shows and Jazz events in New York.   Steve is also a big supporter of Maine State Music Theatre.

Inspiration

Cadenza grew out of a somewhat serendipitous combination of ideas and energy from several talented musicians, serious live music fans, outstanding sound and lighting technicians, and highly experienced performers and producers.

We are committed to providing a high-quality, comfortable space for both performers and audiences.

We opened in April 2019, closed in February 2020 and reopened in June 2020.   Annually, we produce about 100 shows for the enjoyment of more than 3,000 people!   It’s exciting!

Leadership, staff and resources

We have a great team to help assure successful performances including:

From Webster’s Dictionary;

Cadenza is:

A technically brilliant sometimes improvised solo passage toward the close of a concerto

An exceptionally brilliant part of an artistic…work

From that, we get the spirit of Cadenza:

Exceptional  -- Brilliant -- Artistic

As we have evolved our spirit has grown to include the people who attend our events, now we are:

Exceptional – Unexpected - Welcoming

A great location and free parking

  • Convenient to many hotels and restaurants

  • Free, covered parking right across the street!!

  • Bus and Amtrak service within walking distance

  • Just two blocks from LL Bean

Our Schedule

We are normally open for events Fridays and Saturdays.   However, we are flexible and frequently have performances on Thursdays, some Sundays and almost any night that a performer prefers.  Most performances start at 7:00 PM.  Doors typically open 60 minutes before each show. We encourage you to come early and place food orders when you arrive so you can fully enjoy the performance. Please be sure to check our schedule regularly.

Our shows and our Performers

We are offering local, regional and national talent performing a wide variety of music styles including Great American Song book, easy listening, traditional jazz, country and western, Broadway and more! We also often host shows produced by Maine State Music Theatre  We are privileged to have many very talented performers who are enthusiastic about performing at Cadenza.

70% of all tickets sales go to our performers.

We are “performer ready”, click here to see what we offer each performer.

Our facility

To create Cadenza, we started in 2018 and completely renovated a former performance venue at 5 Depot Street.  Everything is new; lighting, sound system, stage, flooring (including a great dance floor!), furniture, bar, walls, paint; everything!

We are a listening room, we encourage respect for our performers and for those who come to relax and listen.

We normally seat up to 50 people comfortably.

We are accessible for the disabled, including grade level entrance and fully accessible restrooms.

            We offer a smoke-free environment.

Animals are not permitted, except service animals.

Deposits from our cans and bottles are donated to a North Yarmouth shelter for elderly dogs called Finally Home.  This shelter takes elderly dogs that have been left with no home when owners die, enter nursing homes or are no longer able to take care of them.   The dogs are not adopted out, Finally Home is their final home.    A member of our Cadenza Community and regular guest at our Cadenza shows, Nancy Hewett, volunteers at Finally Home.

Cancellations and Postponements

In the event of an event postponement we will notify ticket holders by email.

ABOUT US

We survived the pandemic!   We re-opened in June 2020 (one of the first in Maine to re-open) with performers and livestreaming, but no audience.   Then we gradually began to cautiously permit small, live audiences.   We listened, we learned, we stayed the course and we evolved.

Now we are in 2023; stronger and better.   With a full schedule, a comfortable listening room experience, Livestreaming and all complimented by our new Cadenza Community site on Patreon, www.patreon.com/cadenzacommunity.  Our bar is open, and we have a great arrangement with Brickyard Hollow to offer their full menu during our performances.

With your support, we are here to stay!
